Cafeteria Council and Mensaboard
Mensarat
The Mensarat (Cafeteria Council) serves as a strategic advisory body for the university management in the area of cafeterias and dining facilities at the University of Zurich. It consists of five members. The chair of the Mensarat is held by a representative of the Finance Directorate. Voting members include the Rectorate Service, the Real Estate & Operations Directorate, an independent expert (currently an external gastronomy consultant), and a student representative from the Mensaboard. Additionally, the operator and the managing person of the Mensa dossier participate in an advisory capacity without voting rights. The Mensarat is responsible for strategic and financial oversight, manages strategic and operational initiatives, ensures their implementation, or assigns tasks to the respective committees. The current chair of the Mensarat is Daniel Hug, Director of Finance.

Other representatives include site representatives from the university’s main locations or hubs (Zentrum, Irchel, and Oerlikon), representatives of the four university bodies (VFFL, ATP, VSUZH, VAUZ), and a representative of the faculty. Advisory members without voting rights include the operator, an external expert, a representative of the Sustainability Department, a member of the Real Estate & Operations Directorate, and a representative of Campus Life (President's Services).

Site Representation
Since catering needs vary by location, each campus or hub (Zentrum, Irchel, Oerlikon) is represented by a site representative. These representatives advocate for location-specific interests within the Mensaboard and participate in related projects. Their responsibilities include receiving, discussing, and forwarding concerns and complaints regarding the cafeterias and dining facilities at the University of Zurich. Issues that do not pertain to daily operations can be brought directly to the respective site representative. Feedback or complaints about daily operations should continue to be directed to the operator (ZFV).
Management of the Mensa Dossier
The management of the Mensa dossier leads the Mensaboard and serves as the primary contact for the operator. It acts as a central interface between the two committees and ensures proper and situationally appropriate information for the respective members. In this role, the managing person ensures the implementation of strategic, operational, and financial initiatives. Additionally, they are responsible for external communication regarding the cafeterias and dining facilities of the University of Zurich.
